Our paediatric courses are designed to meet the needs of nurses, junior doctors and allied professions who work with children.  The  paediatric courses focus on paediatric training for clinicians working in general practice, primary care, community settings and emergency departments.

  • Have a UK or overseas degree from a recognised institution or equivalent professional or other qualification.
  • Hold professional registration with the NMC, HCPC, GMC or Allied Health Professional Body or Council are encouraged to have an identified mentor in general practice to complete competencies.
  • Work-based learning is central to the course. This approach allows you to manage and actively shape your own learning in the workplace, with the support of nurse mentors and primary care workforce tutors.
  • Some of the learning units require completion of the pre -requisite ELFH modules to be completed before the live zoom session
  • Develop your knowledge of the implications of the main anatomical and physiological differences between adults and children, for the management of minor illness and injury.
  • Use clinical decision-making tools to recognise and evaluate patho-physiological features which can cause minor illness, and injuries in children and be able to refer or treat timeously.
  • Critically reflect, using your workbooks, the current evidence base and healthcare initiatives when treating children and apply these in clinical settings.
  • Demonstrate the ability to make safe clinical judgements through the use of holistic evidence based approach to assess, plan, implement and evaluate the care of children and their families/carers.
  • Equip you with the skills to be able to identify safeguarding issues that may arise during a consultation.
  • Demonstrate the ability to identify and apply the current health strategy and policy when treating the paediatric population.

Course assessments for these pediatric courses are designed to evaluate your understanding and application of the knowledge and skills acquired throughout the program. Assessments may include a variety of methods such as written assignments, practical clinical scenarios, case studies, and reflective exercises. These assessments aim to measure your ability to recognize and manage minor illnesses and injuries in children, apply evidence-based practices, demonstrate proficiency in clinical decision-making, and identify safeguarding concerns. Additionally, assessments may evaluate your comprehension of current health strategies and policies relevant to pediatric care. Feedback provided during assessments serves to support your ongoing learning and development, ensuring that you are well-prepared to deliver high-quality care to children in diverse healthcare settings.

Dr Leah Brennan

 Leah Brennan, a distinguished Chartered Clinical Psychologist, stands as a prominent figure in the field, holding full membership and Associate Fellow status with the British Psychological Society. With over 20 years of extensive experience, Leah is registered with the Health Professionals Council and has made significant contributions in both the UK and Australia, specialising in providing psychological assessments and treatment to children, young people, and their families. Leah's expertise extends to various clinical settings, including anxiety disorders, parenting, childhood sexual abuse, and the care of looked after children. She has shared her wealth of knowledge by training educators on anxiety management in schools, emphasising the importance of mental health awareness and intervention in educational settings.As the founder of Mindscape Psychology, an independent practice based in Hertfordshire, Leah collaborates with children and their families, utilising modern, evidence-based therapy approaches. Her commitment to delivering effective and compassionate care is evident in her focus on evidence-based practices that ensure the well-being and mental health of her clients. In addition to her private practice, Leah serves as a senior NHS Clinical Psychologist within the Paediatric Team at The Hillingdon Hospitals in West London. Dr Sanjeev Kalia

Dr Sanjeev Kalia is a dynamic GP partner, navigating the challenges and opportunities presented by the evolving landscape of healthcare technology. As a key figure in a bustling urban practice where 65% of the patient population is under the age of 35, Dr. Kalia recognises the crucial role that technology plays in delivering safe, compassionate, and clinically effective care to meet the diverse needs of his patients. Dr Charles Stewart

Dr. Stewart, a dedicated Paediatric Consultant, brings a wealth of expertise and academic excellence to the realm of children's health. His educational journey began with pre-clinical medicine at St Andrews, culminating in the completion of clinical studies at Cardiff in 1997, where he was honoured with the Prize for Paediatrics. Currently in his role,Dr. Stewart serves as a Paediatric Consultant with a broad clinical interest encompassing general paediatric conditions. From acute infections and wheezing to feeding problems, gastro-oesophageal reflux, rashes, urinary infections, headaches, funny turns, and routine baby checks, he manages a diverse spectrum of paediatric health concerns. In addition, Dr. Stewart adeptly handles minor trauma and sports-related injuries, demonstrating his comprehensive approach to children's well-being.Dr. Stewart's dedication to advancing his skills and knowledge is evident in his achievements. Placing first in the All-Wales Higher National Training selection rounds, he went on to gain extensive experience across various paediatric specialties. His global perspective on paediatrics is enriched by fellowships at the Toronto Hospital for Sick Children and Westmead Children’s Hospital in Sydney. During these fellowships, he had the privilege of working alongside some of the world's leading figures in paediatrics, further enhancing his expertise.
